Super Dog

An updated photo of our Lilly the Super Dog.  I am unsure if she will continue to recognize her name is actually Lilly, as we are constantly calling her " Oh Super Dog" (through loving clenched teeth).

When the cat is away.... the mice will play.

When daddy went away for a 5 day ski trip this week, I had a streak of impulsiveness.

I did not post about losing Katie Katie Bad Dog this past fall.  We had to put her down as she bit two small children that were visiting.  It was a very very sad day.  Our plan since was to get a puppy in the spring.  I have been watching kijiji posts for puppies.  We were looking for a collie heeler cross.  Both smart breeds, and good cattle dogs.  I myself am a cat person.  I've loved our dogs, but haven't been too fussy about them, becoming more attached to certain felines instead.  I was not prepared emotionally for what transpired while D- was away.....

It all started with a simple inquiry as to whether someone had any female pups left from a litter of 8 advertised heeler collie cross puppies.  She said she had one left and sent me the following picture, with a simple, "She is the one on the left."

When my eyes fell on the photo it was love at first sight.  I was befuddled and arranged a meet and greet that evening.  I couldn't help it.  My exact words to the kids when they said I would end up buying her were, "Absolutely not!  I did not bring any money with me, nor do I have my chequebook.  We are just going to meet her to see her temperament, and then we can tell dad about her."

My children know me better than I know myself.

Between the morning of the picture and driving out to see her, all the puppies were gone except for her depending on our viewing... others waiting in the wings.  I was soon asking if there was an ATM in town.  Driving home, puppy in the back, my stomach started knotting up.  I had impulsively added a family member without dad helping choose.  My kids informed me that it would be 3 against 1.  They would back me up.  I worried for nought.  Dad fell in love with her as easily as we have : )
We called her Lilly (after Lillian Disney - Walt's wife)  She's amazing and so adorable.

A side note. Something worked in my favour.  D's outdoor ed's co-teacher's wife ended up ripping out a toilet, flooring and a wall while they were away.  D's statement.
" I come home to a puppy and G- comes home to a ripped out toilet!  Poor G-!"
A surprise puppy being the least of offences.

Outdoor Education

Daddy works at a high school and helps with the outdoor ed program.  They take two backcountry ski trips in the spring.  He loves these trips.  He just got home Friday night.  A few pictures from his trip.

A year's worth of work.

We shipped cattle today for auction tomorrow.
A year's worth of work comes down to one day.
It's always a bitter sweet day watching the trucks leave.

This morning.  The kids worked so hard this year helping grandpa with the cattle.

a good guide for avoiding pickpockets

Pickpockets

I had the most interesting experience during my recent trip to Los Angeles.

I have to go to Los Angeles for Prose lens eye appointments.  Having been there well over 6 or 7 times - I am losing count, I feel like I know LA. I know the feel, and how to maneuver about with transit etc. and considered it a comfortable experience. Since it is such a large city I usually plan to see something I have not seen before with each trip.  This time I chose to explore the fabric district downtown LA.  It's basically 8 blocks or more of side by side fabric and notion and trims stores.  It's a wholesale district where the public can buy as well.

Being a sewer, I brought a small backpack with me as I ventured to this area.  I anticipated making some purchases, and thought it would be easiest to use a backpack.  The back pack had one main long zipper for the main compartment and a smaller zipper for an outside pocket.  I had nothing in the backpack, and being overwhelmed with tens of thousands of fabric bolts, I was on visual overload and wasn't able to pick anything out.  Exhausted and hungry, I found a local café and sat down to eat.  I took off my back pack to see that both zippers were fully open.  Both!  I hadn't felt a thing!  I thought it so strange that I did not register anyone around me.  I am usually quite diligent about  being aware of my surroundings and the people in my space. I had gone very briefly into Santee Alley which has a reputation for that sort of occurrence, but left immediately as I did not feel comfortable.  I just shrugged it off as it was an empty backpack, and I didn't lose anything.

After lunch I stayed to the main fabric area which wasn't really busy.  It happened again!  I am completely mystified how it could happen twice, and I still didn't feel anything!

They say they have 10 bell pickpocket courses in Europe.
I dare say they have the same thing in LA!

I did end up buying a few sewing tools ... and afterwards I wore my backpack in front.

I'm small town rural and horribly naïve : )  As I get older my confidence in navigating the big bad world is diminishing.  All I know is that when I travel from now on, as is necessary for my medical appointments, I will travel feather light, will know where everything is, and my money and id will be strategically and securely placed.

last post Nov 8th.... well that's gotta change

I can't believe I have not logged in since November.  A lot has happened in the last few months.
Tonight I came on here to recommend a website.

I foresee a lot of wasted (?) hours checking out drone videos.
